Your thyroid controls energy, cholesterol, depression, heart disease and weight. It’s the number one gland to be poisoned by heavy metals and other environmental toxins known as endocrine disruptors. Synthroid is usually prescribed for an underactive thyroid. The problem is that Synthroid is not the active T3 thyroid hormone, but T4 hormone. T4 must be converted to T3 for it to function correctly Solution? This requires selenium! It’s crucial you are checked for a selenium deficiency when on thyroid medication. Have you? The thyroid is such an easy target gland for heavy metals and environmental pollutants, which slow down healing of the thyroid. Why? .......Most glands have an iodine deficiency. What is a major cause of iodine deficiency? There are many reasons for iodine deficiency but at its source, exhaust fumes producing heavy metals displace iodine from the soil, resulting in less uptake in plants we use for food…. Solution? Restore the missing iodine. Yes, iodine deficiency is becoming extremely common. Replace iodine to help restore your deficient nutrients. Dr. Aristotle’s Comment: Energy imbalances or blockages in the meridians can lead to health problems, pain and disease. The goal is to restore proper function and optimum health by removing these blockages and regain balance to the meridian. There is a meridian (LU) that runs up the arm across the chest and through the thyroid gland and down into the lungs.. (see image below) An imbalance of this particular meridian may be an issue if you are suffering from thyroid problems for example. The goal is to repair the imbalanced meridian (see purple meridian) to obtain a normal meridian as shown in green. Stress is the primary reason the body's meridian system repeatedly becomes imbalanced and results in health problems that wont go away after many attempts using traditional methods. Be sure to check for meridian imbalances to help support your thyroid as an addition to your current treatment. Imbalanced (purple) vs Balanced (green) Meridians
Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Aristotle Economou.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dr. Economou. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there. Nothing takes the place of personal experience. This is why as a doctor I understand the difficulties my patients face when dealing with a personal health challenge. Happy Holidays! The first step to slow the aging process is to clean up the accumulated “toxic stuff” sitting in our bodies for the past 12 months or more! Yes, I know you have your favorite anti-aging products but remember healing the skin is from the outside-in and inside-out! Unfortunately the toxins accelerate aging by increasing the oxidation (think rusting patio furniture) and inflammation. The result: stiff and painful joints, fatigue and low energy levels, difficult weight loss and aging skin! Some of us age faster than others and it shows….. in part due to the amount of toxins store in our bodies. There’s no better way for you to start an anti-aging program than detoxifying. At the end of this blog, I’ll share a new at home detox program that I love and that’s amazing for detoxing. Our patients are reporting stellar results. There are two primary causes for disease and accelerated aging: (1) nutrient levels go down (2) toxicity levels go up. Let's Talk Arsenic. It’s Not Just in Rice Arsenic contamination of ground and drinking water has become an almost silent global health catastrophe. It leads to liver cirrhosis, NASH (fatty liver, the #1 liver disease now), diabetes, kidney damage, heart attacks, as well as cancers of the skin, liver, bladder, kidney, and lung. But levels are high in those who eat a lot of chicken, since arsenic is a common insecticide powder used to kill body lice on fowl raised in close quarters. Aside from the recent discovery that arsenic can be a contaminant in rice, we rarely hear about it. That’s in part because it’s but one of thousands of unavoidable nasty environmental chemicals that erode our health. But worse, we don’t hear about it because there is no easy solution for it. So arsenic continues to be one of the myriad of unavoidable chemicals that drive our epidemic of chronic diseases. Yet like any chemical, it has multiple ways of damaging our genetics, energy producing mitochondria, and cell membranes needed for producing healing and anti-aging. Since arsenic is also a heavy metal, it does even more damage. For it can kick minerals out of enzymes and then bring the activity of those enzymes to a screeching halt. Fortunately, there are many ways to combat the dangers of this heavy metal and other toxins. Examples range from basic foods like pomegranate juice, green beans, brassica every day such as cabbage, arugula, broccoli, brussels sprouts, kale, radishes, collard greens and cauliflower! The goal is to make sure every day you have phyto-nutrients, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, amino acids, and whole foods to balance out the destruction of ubiquitous yet unavoidable environmental toxins. In the meantime, here are my new favorite anti-aging 2-month detox kits and cleanse: This way you can get rid of even more stored disease-promoting chemicals especially as a new year cleanse, including heavy metals like arsenic. Health is merely a question of getting enough support to enable you to restore nutrient levels, lower toxin levels and start slowing the aging process in the new year! Children whose mothers were exposed to flame retardants during pregnancy may have a lower IQ than their peers who did not experience prenatal exposure, a new study reports. A hazardous class of flame retardant chemicals commonly found in furniture and household products damages children’s intelligence, resulting in loss of IQ points, according to a new study (August 2017) by UC San Francisco researchers. They found that every 10 fold increase of maternal flame retardant levels was associated with a drop of 3.7 IQ points in her child We are exposed to a variety of chemicals each day. It’s nearly impossible to avoid them. If they accumulate in our body then we experience symptoms and eventually diagnosed with some disease. They find their way into the food chain, in particularly high concentration with products that are rich in fats such as fish, meat and milk. They also enter our systems as we breathe particles that have off-gassed from household furnishings. In fact, today’s child at 6 years old already has chemical levels that it used to take us until our 40’s to accumulate. There are also strong links between fire retardants and the following conditions:
Accumulation of a lifetime of these toxins combined with others such as heavy metals can result in exhaustion, depression, weight gain, poor motivation, hair loss, and high cholesterol. It doesn’t end there….They can also cause problems; adrenal stress glands, low testosterone, reduced estrogen production, polycystic ovarian syndrome (POS), endometriosis, and cancer. Calcium channels can also blocked leading to high blood pressure, heart failure, and others. The author Woodruff of the UC San Francisco study stated: “Many people are exposed to high levels of flame retardants (PBDEs) and the more PBDEs a pregnant woman is exposed to, the lower her child’s IQ,” And when the effects of PBDEs are combined with those of other toxic chemicals such as from building products or pesticides, the result is a serious chemical cocktail that our current environmental regulations simply don’t account for.” The researchers also found some evidence of a link between PDBE exposures and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but concluded that more studies are necessary to better characterize the relationship. Solution? If you are planning a pregnancy, reduce the toxic load of your body including heavy metals and other toxins that have accumulated to reduce your baby’s exposure. Review your current detoxification pathways and check if they are working properly through blood and urine testing. Sweating is one proven mechanism for dumping stored environmental toxins Purchase an infrared sauna that uses “poplar wood” only. Call our office for a recommendation. I highly recommend using a sauna after your labs have been completed. Eliminate trans fatty acids out of the diet, and restore missing essential fats, correct mineral deficiencies, like selenium, manganese, zinc and magnesium to facilitate safe detoxification. Use cotton mattress covers and room air purifiers to help lower the toxins and avoid the memory foam pillows and beds due to out-gassing. For more information on our pre-pregnancy programs call us at 310.734.0951 Here’s The Number One Pollutant In Our Bodies! ![]() They are found everywhere. It is difficult to completely avoid them. Plastics (or the chemical name, phthalates) are now considered the number one pollutant in the human body. They make products flexible, durable, and these chemicals are also in items you would not consider to be plastics, like pesticides, detergents, cosmetics, medications, or your shampoo. You can live in the most pristine place on planet earth and still find animals polluted with plastics. It is an interesting fact that plasticizers are over 10,000 to 1,000,000 times higher in our bodies than any other toxins that have been found in EPA studies. Unfortunately once in the body, these plastics do enormous damage. 7 Ways Plastics Damage the Body 1. Brain Health Phthalates damage the chemistry of fatty acids most importantly, the fatty acid, DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). This is the fundamental chemistry necessary for making every cell lining or membrane. These fatty acids are the foundation for brain health including memory and recall. 2. Indigestion, Depression, Heart Disease, Cancer, Diabetes, and Accelerated Aging Phthalates can create a zinc deficiency which will compromise the metabolism of vitamins A and B-6. In turn this could lead to conditions such as indigestion, depression, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and accelerated aging. As a quick side note the combination of low zinc and low DHA can lead to chronic inflammation. Medical literature has clearly identified chronic inflammation as one of the most common underlying pathologies of most diseases leading to auto-immune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, MS) to cancer and heart disease. ![]() 3. Diabetes, Insulin Resistance and Metabolic Syndrome X Phthalates has been found to be responsible for damaging the pancreas leading to diabetes, insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome X. 4. Lower Sulfation Phthalates has been found to lower sulfation. This means that you are no longer able to effectively detoxify like you should. This in turn can lead to a whole host of health challenges. 5. Hormone Function Phthalates damage hormone function, especially thyroid and testosterone. ![]() 6. Cholesterol and “Happy Hormones” Phthalates can poison the peroxisomes needed for the control of the chemistry of cholesterol. They can cause high cholesterol while at the same time keep cholesterol from forming the “happy hormones” (neurotransmitters) of the brain. 7. Cancer Phthalates can damage the body's ability to make catalase. Catalase is absolutely essential for devouring up the hydrogen peroxide that cancer cells make to allow them to metastasize or wildly spread throughout the body. Lack of catalase is a reason why many cancers briefly seem to be in remission after treatments, only to resurface months or years later with lethal consequences. These are only 7 of the devastating effects of plastics in our bodies. Many diseases will never be cured until the phthalates are out.

Dr. Aristotle EconomouDr. Aristotle understands the difficulties patients go through when dealing with a personal health challenge. In 2006, an event occurred that turned his life upside down and put his years of clinical experience in wellness healthcare to the ultimate test. Over a short period, the muscles in Aristotle’s body unexpectedly became paralyzed with only the ability to slightly move his hands at the wrists and blink his eyes.
Aristotle ended up in an intensive care unit (ICU), followed by a 72-day stay in a local hospital. He was told he may never walk again. Throughout the year, his healing journey continued while confined to an electric wheelchair and requiring around-the-clock care. With help and determination, Aristotle combined modalities from Functional Medicine, Eastern Medicine and unique techniques in Chiropractic and Tui Na. This resulted in the ability to rebuild his body mind and spirit, which was the foundation to his miraculous recovery including the ability to walk again.
Aristotle then wrote the book, Change the Way You Heal: 7 Steps To Highly Effective Healing. No matter how big or small your health problem, this inspirational book shows you how to maximize your healing abilities and resources using the same methods he implemented in his own recovery. |
